Amazing Mocktails Around the World
Mocktails. How do we feel about that word?
I’ve got mixed feelings about it, but I haven’t heard a better word yet. On one hand, it’s catchy, a playful nod to the cocktail without the booze. But IMO, the word cocktail needs work, but I’ll leave that up to someone else.
“NA drinks” and “zero-proof options” seem to be the trend lately.
Whether you’re calling it a mocktail, NA, or free-spirit, they all have one thing in common - they don’t need alcohol.
I personally have at least three beverages at any given moment, so I respect the art of making a delightful alcohol-free beer that pays homage to its location.
Here are a few of my favorites:
Los Cabos, Mexico
Mexico, I love you.
I’m actually picky when it comes to my mocktails.
I mean, 1) I’m not a fan of simple syrup, 2) I don’t drink pop, and it absolutely can’t be something that’s been batched in a giant bucket. I HAVE STANDARDS, YOU KNOW.
But when you’re staying at a property like Grand Velas, you just know their mocktails will be fire, so I decided to try the Basil V. It’s made with soursop, basil, lime, and ginger—all the good stuff. And yes, I had to Google what soursop is, but whatever—it was delicious! Plus, the dehydrated pineapple garnish was a nice touch. If I sound like a bit of a mocktail snob, it’s because I am. But honestly, I’m picky about most things I eat and drink. Thank you, Sobriety, for making sure I only enjoy things that are good for me! Grand Velas has some beautiful properties, and I’d recommend checking them out.
Tucson, Arizona
Ok, if you haven’t been to Miraval Tucson, go ahead and book flights and come right back to this blog.
I wrote about my amazing four days here …. I still dream about that bed.
I had the chance to try one of their zero-proof drinks, and omg it was delicious. The mocktail, Alpenglow, featured Clean Co rum, watermelon puree, orgeat, lime, and soda. I haven’t tried Clean Co rum, and honestly, I don’t have any plans to at this point in my journey. I’ve heard great things, but it’s a pass for me. I asked the amazing server to skip the Clean Co rum and the orgeat, a simple syrup made with almonds, sugar, and rosewater. TBH, it sounds like a perfume I would love. I’m sure it’s delicious too, but I do my best to avoid sugar and anything too sweet.
The staff at Miraval were so accommodating—they didn’t blink an eye at my request and were more than happy to make the drink to my liking. Sister added a salt rim, and I was like, “Are you a mindreader?”. I LOVE SALT.
This mocktail was so refreshing and perfectly balanced that I ordered it several more times during my stay. Miraval Tucson is such a beautiful wellness resort, and with properties in Austin and the Berkshires, too, it’s a place to keep on your radar.
