I bought a one-way ticket to CDMX the day before I left

…. sometimes I do things like that

I’ve been thinking about travel and what makes a memorable trip. For some, it’s the arts and culture, for others, it’s interacting with locals. For me, it’s tacos. And when I think tacos, I def think Mexico City. As the largest city in North America, I knew it would be an unforgettable adventure.

Tbh it wasn’t on my radar until Tom Horton told me he would be there for a few days during his summer break from teaching English in China. And if you know Tom Horton, when he says “jump” you say “how high?”. I booked a flight and left the next day. Have I made

better life decisions?

Probably.

Tom and I explored.

He made pterodactyl sounds.

I questioned our friendship.

Here were my favorite things about the trip:

  • Eating tacos at every street corner

  • Witnessing Luche libre

  • Feeling like Mary Kate & Ashley on private Vespa Tour

  • Discovering new fun tacos

  • Finding The Best Bakery In The World

  • Having tacos for every meal

  • Exploring Basilica of Our Lady of Guadalupe

  • Having a private tour of Teotihuacán Pyramids

  • Practicing gratitude for tacos

  • Overcoming my fear of heights in a hot air balloon

  • Did I mention tacos?

CDMX understood the assignment.

A city full of unparalleled anthropology, next-level street food, and all-around gracious hospitality, this spot is for sure on my “go back” list.

Next time you think “I want to go on a trip, but I don’t know where to go” (first off, same).. second: think of CDMX.
