Overcoming the Challenges of Solo Travel

Hi, you adventurous soul, you.

Solo Travel is one of the most empowering experiences I’ve had over the years. It’s a chance to discover yourself, meet incredible people, and see the world on your own terms. I’d be lying if I said it didn’t come with challenges. And I’ve made alllll of the mistakes.

Like all of them.

Here are some tips to help you make the most of your solo adventure.

Face the Fear Honey

I know it sucks, I hate it too. But you gotta do it. It’s totally normal to feel a bit scared. Whether’s it your first trip, or your tenth, the pre-travel jitters are real. Turn that fear into excitement. I once read that fear and excitement are the same feeling, I’m not sure if that’s true, but try it for yourself. Take a deep breath, and do the damn thing.

Plan but be flexible.

PBBF. You know all the things I’m going to say: research your destination, book your accommodations, have an IDEA of what you want to see and do, but leave room to be a little spontaneous. Leave room to talk with the locals to ask where the best ice cream is. Some of my best travel experiences came from local recommendations and chance encounters. Trust yourself that you will figure things out as you.

Stay Connected.

Yo, it can feel lonely. Trust me, I know. Luckily, staying connected is easier than ever. You can join different travel groups on Facebook, or stay in touch with people from home. Sometimes just asking a barista where cool people hang out can lead to a memorable experience. I always recommend checking in with friends and family back home. A quick FaceTime can put a pep in your step.

Safety.

Please stay safe, always. Be aware of your surroundings. I personally do not go out after dark anyways because that just makes me feel the most safe. I had a unfortunate issue happen in Australia years ago and after that I just made sure to stay in at night. Plus, I like going to bed early and getting a headstart on the day. A little caution goes a long way.

Enjoy your own company because YOU ARE AMAZING

I love the freedom that come with solo travel, and often take full advantage. I love to #treatmyself to a nice breakfast.. Lunch.. And dinner.. Honestly I just love treating myself all of the time.

You better recognize

Finally, remind yourself how amazing you are. Traveling solo takes some serious guts, and look at you, you’re doing! Every challenge you overcome is a reflection of your strength.

Keep going, babe. You’ve got this.

Hopefully, these tips helped you overcome the challenge of solo travel; I promise it’s worth it.
